The Centennial Logo

Here is what the Centennial logo means:
The ti leaf is a symbol of protection. Here, it represents countless generations who have cared for Haleakalā. In 1916, the National Park Service joined in the stewardship of this land, which provides homes for species found nowhere else on earth and supports Native Hawaiian stories, sites, and traditions that link the present to the past and future.

Haleakalā National Park was created on August 1, 1916 as part of Hawai'i National Park. The new park, which composed of the summit of Haleakalā volcano along with the Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes on the Island of Hawai'i, was created days before the creation of the National Park Service on August 25, 1916. Today, Haleakalā National Park encompasses 33,265 acres stretching from the Kīpahulu coastline in East Maui to the 10,023 ft. summit of Haleakalā volcano. We invite you to join us as we celebrate our 100th
